Individual Psychotherapy for Adults
I am committed to helping you move through the challenges in your life, and to become fully the person you wish to be. I provide depth-oriented relational psychotherapy services for individuals. My work focuses on evidence-based approaches that view you as a whole person. I integrate intersectional and liberational approaches, believing that by enhancing your strengths and resiliencies you can resolve past trauma, grief, and loss. I work psychodynamically and am also trained in relational gestalt, intersubjectivity, motivational interviewing, and DBT as well as other treatment approaches. We will work in collaboration to find the best ways to transform your life.
Individual Psychotherapy for Adolescents
Being a teenager or a young adult can be an exciting and confusing time. Psychotherapy can help in many ways, including providing emotional support, assisting in resolving conflicts with the adults and peers in their life, creating new patterns of interacting that will serve them into adulthood, addressing confusing and scary issues of identity and emotions, and finding new solutions to old problems. I have been providing psychotherapy services for teens and young adults since 1996, in private practice, community mental health, and school-based programs. I specialize in services for queer/questioning youth and trans and nonbinary teens.
EMDR
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy that was originally developed for the treatment of traumatic memories. It is thought that EMDR therapy assists in processing traumatic and “stuck” information, new associations are formed, and positive memories are enhanced. EMDR therapy assists in processing traumatic information, forming new associations, and enhancing positive memories. I have completed introductory and advanced training in EMDR and have been a practitioner since 1997.
My Approach
Finding the right therapy connection is essential on the journey for healing, change, and growth. As a relational and intersubjective therapist, I believe we are often injured in relationships and social contexts. Because of this, we can heal in relationships and the therapy context. The most important part of the healing journey is finding the right therapy connection.
I consider the therapy relationship to be sacred and based in mutual respect and deep caring.
My approach is warm, compassionate, and transparent. I am also direct, honest, and authentic. I believe humor can be an important healer. In addition to helping you gain insight and self-compassion, our work will focus on real strategies to challenge beliefs and patterns that are holding you back including negative thoughts, self-judgements, and destructive behaviors. I will work with you to establish therapy goals and determine the best approach. I integrate multiple approaches including Relational, Intersubjective, Relational Gestalt, EMDR, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Liberation/Social Psychology.
I have over 25 years of experience working with adults and adolescents in the areas of life transitions, anxiety, depression, career stress and transition, LGBTQ+, gender identity and transitions, adoption, parenting, transracial families, grief and loss, AD/HD, trauma, and parenting. I work specifically with those who have experienced traumatic stress as a result of being a member of a marginalized community in a social context of oppression and domination.
If you're interested in working together, I offer a free 15 minute phone or video consultation. I also have experience using telehealth. Feel free to send me a message or give me a call to talk about what you are looking for in a therapist and what your goals are for therapy. I look forward to hearing from you!
